Evelyn June has started to walk!  She can take about five or six steps before she loses confidence and plunks to her butt.  When she gets going she lets out a cute giggle. Learning a skill that gets you an eensy bit closer to independence requires giggling.

walking

She is so funny to see walking around because she is so little.  She had her nine-month check up a few weeks ago and she is 27 inches tall and weighs 14 pounds, 13 ounces.  She eats so much, though.  A typical day:  Breakfast- 1 cup of cereal, 3 ounces of pureed fruit, and a slice of bread or two scrambled egg yolks; Snack 1- half a banana and a teething biscuit; Lunch- another cup of cereal, 3 ounces of pureed veggies, and an entire pear diced up; Snack 2- half cup of yogurt with a few handfuls of cheerios; Dinner- one more cup of cereal, 3 more ounces of pureed veggies or fruit, and an entire diced avocado.  And she still nurses.  I don’t know where it all goes.

Snow Day

snow

Most of the state of Wisconsin is snowed in today.  My work is closed and Scott had the day off anyway so a snow day is good.   We haven’t really had any accumulation and last night were dumped with 16 inches.  Little bit of a shock.  Scott has been trying to snow-blow the driveway in stages.  The plows didn’t go very far up the end of our driveway so there is about 2 feet of packed snow four feet further out into the road than usual.  At least our mailbox hasn’t been knocked in to the field next door- yet.

snow icecream

To celebrate the new snowfall I made snow ice cream.  I used about 4 cups of snow, 1/4 c of heavy cream, 1/4 c of milk, 1/4 c of sugar and vanilla and almond extract.  So fun and good.  Next time I think I’ll use mint extract.  Maybe some chocolate malt powder.  Evelyn wasn’t too impressed- she just let it melt and run out the corners of her mouth. Icy cold.

chalice baby blanket

With no where to go I got started on my next knitting project.  I’ve been wanting to make Evelyn a blanket but had yet to find the perfect marriage between pattern and yarn.  Then I found some great superwash worsted merino in the prettiest peachy-pink colorway and decided on a lacy pattern.  This is my first attempt at lace and so far so good.  I only made two teensy mistakes that were noticed too late to be fixed.  I call this blanket ‘Flaming June’ after one of my favorite paintings and my Miss June.

If the snow keeps us confined longer than the time it takes to knit this, I’ve got plenty of supplies for other projects.

Projects

I have so much to do and I don’t know where to start!  This is usually when I run around and don’t get anything done because I’m overwhelmed.  First off, knitting projects:

  • Mom’s belated birthday present.  I’m about half done with this.
  • Mittens for myself.
  • Baby blanket for Evelyn.  She’s at that age where she is going to get attached to something and I don’t want to be carrying around a sweaty blankie.

I’ve been getting awesome yarn from Eat.Sleep.Knit.  I can’t wait until they get more Madelintosh worsted in stock.  The colors are so pretty and it is such a soft yarn.  I should really buy double of the color way I got for Evelyn’s blanket in case I need to knit a replacement.  If anybody reading this has some (2 skeins) worsted in ‘Afternoon’ and is willing to part with it, let me know.  Or if you have a yarn store close to you that has it, let me know.  Until then I’ll just keep my eye out.  There aren’t any local shops here that sell Madelinetosh so I guess I’ll just have to keep stalking the net.
